The mid calf snow boot is our taller winter boot: the shaft rises halfway up your calf, which keeps slush out of the top on unplowed sidewalks. A side zipper makes it easy to pull on, and the synthetic fur lining runs all the way up.

The upper is water-resistant synthetic leather on a rubber traction sole. It is warm for city winters, but it is not sold as waterproof and has no temperature rating. It comes in White, Beige and Black.

American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, OrthoInfo: Shoes, Finding the Right Fit. Feet swell during the day, by up to eight percent, so shoes are best bought toward the end of it. Feet should be measured standing, because body weight spreads them, and measured again every year. Leave about half an inch between the longest toe, which is not always the big toe, and the tip of the shoe. Size varies between brands and styles, so fit decides and the number on the box does not. Care

The upper is water-resistant synthetic leather: it sheds rain and slush, but it is not a waterproof boot, so standing water and deep snow will eventually get through the seams and the zipper.

Brush off salt and grit once the boots are home, wipe the upper with a damp cloth, and let the lining dry at room temperature with the zipper open.
